Māpua Wetland Restoration Group
Wetlands are a critical part of the ecology of our nation, playing a key role in cleansing and improving the quality of our water. Once the flatland of Māpua was largely wetland. The human drive for growth and development has decimated the wetland and replace them with houses or cows.
Our mission is to limit development and restore as much of this wetland as is possible.
Water from springs and streams in the hills surrounding Māpua flows down the valleys through a series of wetlands to the Waimea Inlet and Tasman Bay.
This network of streams and wetlands are nature’s storm water system and with the climate crisis and inevitable storm events, the preservation and restoration of wetlands is more important than ever.
